THOMAS SPEAKS ON HIS 2016 EXPERINCE

Geraint Thomas has had a year filled with so many victories, starting from his win in Paris-Nice and Volta ao Algarve. 2016 has been the most successful year throughout his career.

Thomas (Team Sky) claimed his biggest victory earlier this year in Paris-Nice stage race and won the Volta ao Algarve for the second time. However it was not all smooth for him as he suffered crashes at the Tour de France and the Olympic Games.

The Welshman wrote about his mixed fortune on a blog post on the Protect Your Bubbles Insurance website:

“This year went well, all in all. I had the biggest win of my career with Paris-Nice and defended my Algarve title which I won in 2015. It wasn’t all plain sailing.”

Thomas experience a season characterized with many ups and down. He suffered a crashed during Milan-San Remo, and entered the Tour of Flanders after what he described as a ‘tough couple of weeks,’ finishing 12th in Flanders.

Thomas performance dropped at the Tour de Suisse, after he suffered a cold in June. His health condition affected preparations for the Tour de France in July. All hopes of finishing the Tour at the top were tarnished when he suffered an early crash.

“I have mixed feelings about the Tour de France this year,” wrote Thomas.

“In the end I finished 15th, the same position I was in in 2015, but it was a completely different race for me this time around.

“I was fourth with two days to go in 2015 and had a lot of confidence in myself, this year it was more a case of doing my job as I crashed on the first stage and cracked my rib, which obviously meant I wasn’t at my best for the rest of the race,” he added.

However, Thomas is very optimistic about the 2017 season, and has started training in earnest. He says he is hoping it would be his best season yet.
