Thomas Satisfied with Giro Performance

Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas is extremely happy by the performances he has put up already in the Giro d’Italia, having almost come close to securing victory at the first stage of the Grand Tour, considered the second most prestigious tour in cycling only to the famous Tour de France. The 25 year old put in one his best performances on the bicycle in the last few months and almost came close to securing a hard earned victory but he was beaten to the finish line by Taylor Phinney of the Team BMC. Thomas just trailed him by 9 seconds to end the stage in second position and he was followed over the finish line by Alex Rasmussen of the Team Garmin Barracuda, who came in a  further four seconds behind.

Geraint spoke to the assembled journalists at the end of the race and stated that he was extremely happy with his performances in the first stage of the Tour and also expressed his admiration for the quality with which Phinney rode and finished the race. According to Geraint Thomas, he measured the race pretty well, adding that he could have done a bit better in one or two corners, where he ended up losing speed but he also raised his hands up saying that having trailed by nine seconds at the end, he couldn’t put the blame on a couple of corners.

He also added that since his background is in track racing, there is the obvious temptation of racing fast around the corners but he had to maintain calm and take it slowly over.

Having already secured a victory in the World Championships and winning the first stage of the Tour of Romandie, Geraint Thomas is happy with his year so far, with the Olympic Games looming large on the horizon.
